As the world seems to be going down because of the Covid-19 Pandemic,Indian Auto sector has come out as the most prominent fighter in the collective response of India towards the global pandemic.It has become one of the largest contributors to the central and the state governments’ relief funds.Before the central government has even announced the PM Cares fund,Auto sector had already taken some steps regarding the preparations to respond against the pandemic.The first and the foremost response was given by Mr Anand Mahindra;Chairman of Mahindra group,who shared his plan of action on SM to manufacture ventilators and providing their hospitality facilities to be converted into temporary care facilities.
We have compiled this list for you,so next when you go out to buy a new vehicle,you would know how these companies have stood with your country during such crisis.Here’s the list ;
1.Tata Group :
Tata group has pledged a lump-sum amount of Rs 1500 cr to fight the global pandemic.Mr Ratan Tata (Chairman of Tata trusts) on SM announced a fund Rs 500 cr.After this announcement,Mr N.Chandrasekaran also announced a whooping sum of Rs 1000 cr on behalf of the Tata sons.
This fund will collectively be utilised for providing the protective gears for medical personnel,ventilators,number of testing kits to increase the rate of testing in the country and also to set up hospitals.Below is the image,which was shared by Mr Ratan Tata on SM.
2.Mahindra Group :
Mahindra group Chairman,Mr Anand Mahindra was the first person in the auto industry to take the initiative regarding the country’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.He announced his group’s certain proposed initiative on Mar 22 ,2020 using SM.
Mahindra group’s initiatives are :
- How to use their manufacturing units to produce Ventilators.
- Offered the Mahindra group’s Hospitality facilities to be used as temporary care facilities
- Project teams to assist the govt/army in erecting temporary care facilities.
- Mr Anand Mahindra will contribute 100% of his salary & will add more,over the next few months.
3.Bajaj Group :
Living to the aspirations of many since several years,Bajaj is yet again reliving to its past slogan of “Humara Bajaj”.It has pledged a fund of Rs 100 cr to upgrade the facilities related to healthcare in Pune.Bajaj group posses 200 NGOs & with their help they are trying to reach the needy in the best possible manner.It will assist hospitals in Pune and will provide food & essential items to the rural population and to those who actually needs it.
4.Adani foundation :
We have included Adani Group in our list,as they in near future will be manufacturing E-Buses in India.Mr Gautam Adani had donated a good amount of Rs 100 cr to the Prime Minister’s fund.
He confirmed it on SM by tweeting,”Adani foundation is humbled to contribute Rs 100 cr to the #PMcaresfund in this hour of India’s battle against #COVID19″
5.L&T Group :
Larsen & Toubro,a heavy duty vehicle manufacturer had offered Rs 150 cr to the PM Cares fund and also pledged Rs 500 cr per month to support 1.60 Lakh contract workers.This fund will be utilised in paying wages of these workers even during the lock-down and to arrange all the essentials for them until the lock-down is in place.
The group’s chairman,Mr AM Naik said, “L&T has always stood by the nation in its hour of need.We are helping India’s fight against covid-19 by way of immediate funding and through a range of welfare initiatives including converting our training schools into isolation centres.We are also leveraging our engineering and construction expertise to help the authorities deal with the crisis”.
6.Hero Moto Corp :
Famous Two wheeler giant,Hero Moto Corp has pledged an amount of Rs 100 cr to support India’s fight against Corona (Covid-19).The group has donated Rs 50 Cr directly to PM Cares fund and is using other half to distribute Medical equipments,Food & essentials.In the recent news,the group has delivered 60 First responder ambulances to the authorities in respective states.
7.TVS Motor :
TVS motor has donated Rs 25 Cr directly to the PM cares fund to support the country’s resolve against the pandemic.It has also donated additional fund of Rs 5 cr to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s public relief fund (Through Srinivasan Service trust).
With the help of Srinivasan Service trust,TVS is supplying 1 million face masks for the essential staff in the state of Tamil Nadu.It is giving Disinfectants and vehicles to the municipal corporation of Tamil Nadu.At the manufacturing units in Hosur and Padi,the trust has set up a kitchen to provide food for the people who are in active participation to fight against covid-19.

8.Ashok Leyland :
Ashok leyland support is mostly non-monetary in nature & instead,they provided services like :
- N95 Masks,3 ply masks,gloves,body suits,sanitizers & liquid hand-wash for the healthcare personnel.
- Protective gears like Chemical guard suit,protective goggles for sanitation workers.
- Provided 10 vehicles with drivers to the health department to be used for emergencies.
- Ashok leyland’s power solution business has given a Genset each to two government hospitals and to a Medical college in Tamil Nadu.
We at Ashok Leyland are leaving no stone unturned to help the community at large.We shall work with the government at every step and stay supportive of all their initiatives in the coming daysSaid,Balachandran NV (President-HR,Communications & CSR).
Mercedes has helped to set up a 1500 bed temporary hospital near Pune and has provided ventilators to the Grant Medical Foundation (Ruby hall clinic).
10.Skoda Auto Volkswagen India pvt ltd :
This company has provided Rs 1 cr to set up a 1100 bed facility at Sasson general Hospital,Pune.Other initiatives by the group are :
- 35,000 sanitisers to the Pune,Mumbai & Aurangabad based Hospitals.
- Distribution of over 50,000 food packets in Aurangabad and in near-by regions.
- It will be producing Face shields at Chakan Factory.They will be distributed to the healthcare workers.
- It will import Medical supplies from the parent company (Volkswagen AG).

10.Maruti Suzuki :
Maruti Suzuki had offered its manufacturing units to be used in making ventilators.It will be making around 10,000 Ventilators per month and will provide 20 lakh masks .To manufacture Ventilators,masks & PPE,Maruti will be working together with AgVa healthcare.Apart from these,Maruti will also be producing 3 ply masks and will give 2 million masks to the government (Haryana & the Central).
Hyundai Motor India ltd (HMIL) handed over the cheque of Rs 5 cr to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Relief Fund.Other non-monetary initiatives of the company are :
- To import advanced diagnostic kits from South Korea.
- Assist fabrication of ventilators.
- Distribution of PPE kits.
- Distribution of dry ration.
Honda India foundation (CSR arm of the Honda group) has pledged Rs 11 cr towards relief & prevention measures.
It will also be providing 2000 High Pressure backpack sprayers to the government agencies.
13.Kia Motor :
KIA Motors India pledges Rs 2 cr to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.Further,it is also assisting in healthcare works.
14.MG Motor :
MG motor has given Rs 2 Cr for the Government hospital and health authorities in Gurugram (Haryana) and in Halol (Gujarat).
Rs 1 cr will come directly from the company and another half will come from its employees.
Depending on the respective requirement of the healthcare set-ups and of the officials,MG motor India will provide Safety equipment,healthcare items,Ventilators etc.
Further,Car makers have also announced a release of fund worth Rs.1800 cr to support the car dealers under the COVID-19 package.
